How to See the Jewel Waterfall During Your Changi Airport Transit & Plan Your Time (July 2023)

RAIN VORTEX シンガポール

In July 2023、I went on a trip to Germany with Singapore Airlines. Since I had a transit at the Changi Airport in Singapore, I had a chance to see the giantic waterfall at Jewel, which is right next to the airport!

There is HSBC RAIN VORTEX which is the world’s tallest indoor waterfall inside of Jewel. You can see it during your transit.

The operating hours for the Rain Vortex are as follows (August 2023).

Monday – Thursday:11:00AM – 10:00PM
Friday – Sunday (including Public Holidays):10:00AM – 10:00PM

Even when I went to the Maldives in 2022, I transited through Changi Airport, but unfortunately, the waterfall was under construction at that time….

Here is the post from that time.

This time, I finally got my revenge ans saw the waterfall.

I will show you how to see the Jewel waterfall during your Changi Airport transit, answering these common questions and sharing my photos.

  • How to get to Jewel from Changi Airport?
  • How much time do you need to see the waterfall and return?

Accessing Jewel During Your Transit

Here is the map of Changi Airport.

Quoted from Changi Airport’s official website

As you can see, Jewel is surrounded by Terminal 1, 2 and 3. Thereforem, you can see to it from any of these terminals.

As you can see on the map, walking from Terminal 1 is the closest.

The Skytrain runs between Terminal 2 and 3, but you cannot get off at Jewel.

But, You can enjoy a close-up view of the waterfall from the Skytrain windows!

To visit Jewel during your transit, here’s the flow:

  1. Head towards the immigration gate from your transit area in Terminal 1, 2, or 3.
  2. Go through immigration procedures.
  3. Exit into the public area.
  4. Follow the “Jewel” sings and walk.

This time, I visited Jewel from the transit area following these steps, and I’d like to share them with you in order.

  • Going: Terminal 3 → Jewel
  • Returning: Jewel → Terminal 2

For your reference, the time when each photo was taken is noted in the caption below it.

By looking at the photos and the caption, you should be able to see roughly how many minutes you need.

By the way, last time I went to Jewel from Terminal 1.

From Terminal 3 to Jewel

We’ll start from the Terminal 3 transit area. First, to exit the airport, we’ll look for the “Arrivals” sign.

9:58

Once you go down the escalator, you’ll find the immigration gates.

9:59

If you’re a Japanese national, both entry and exit through immigration are very smooth thanks to the automatic gates.

Please make sure to register for your SG Arrival Card in advance.

10:01

I was able to clear immigration in about two minutes.

Once I exit to the public area, look for signs for Jewel.

10:04

Once you find the signs, it’s just a straight walk from there.

10:06

You’ll find a walkway leading to Jewel.

10:08

The Skytrain was running right alongside the walkway.

10:10

I could see the round-shaped building.

10:11

I’ve arrived at Jewel! From the immigration gate to here, it took just over 10 minutes.

I can see the waterfall in the back!

Jewel

I immediately headed towards the waterfall. This photo was taken from a lower floor.

Even though Jewel is air-conditioned, the area near the waterfall was quite hot and humid, which prevented me from staying for too long.

This photo was taken from the very top floor. The Skytrain, which connects Terminals 2 and 3, runs through here.

I heard that crossing the bridge in the center of the photo requires a fee.

From Jewel to Terminal 2

After visiting Jewel, I headed towards the restricted area.

Next, I looked for signs pointing to Terminal 2 within Jewel.

10:29

Once I found the signs, just follow them down the straight path.

10:32

To get back to the transit area, follow the signs for Departures.

10:35

Just continue along the straight path.

10:36

Departures is now in sight! I’ll proceed with the immigration procedures.

10:38

When passing through the gate, I showed my boarding pass to the staff.
Even though my flight was departing from Terminal 2, I entered the restricted area from Terminal 3, so I was told to take the Skytrain to reach my terminal.

After going through the gate, perhaps because I was wearing a backpack, I was asked to go through the metal detector.

10:42

I’ve successfully returned to the transit area.

Even with the security check, I was able to get back from Jewel in just over 10 minutes. So, if you have a little bit of time, I highly recommend visiting Jewel!

After this, I went to the food court in Terminal 2. The introduction article can be found here.
